A Border Beside Shared Heritage

Mosi-oa-Tunya / Victoria Falls is a shared Zambia–Zimbabwe World Heritage property, inscribed in 1989. UNESCO records the waterfall’s width as 1,708 metres and describes the river-cut basalt gorges that shape this landscape.

The Zambian side is in Livingstone District, where the border serves travellers alongside its customs role.

Buying a Vehicle or Visiting

If you bought a vehicle abroad to bring into Zambia, start with an import assessment. If you are visiting in a foreign-registered vehicle and intend to leave with it, check the applicable temporary-entry formalities instead. A visitor’s journey should not automatically become a permanent import declaration.

Personal temporary entry is also different from a vehicle travelling as commercial cargo in transit. Explain the ownership, purpose and intended departure rather than choosing a procedure from the registration country alone.

Confirm the Crossing Before Dispatch

ZRA’s published station guide lists Victoria Falls as a commercial customs-clearance station. That listing is not confirmation of present bridge weight limits, permitted vehicle dimensions, opening hours or suitability for a particular transporter.

Before dispatching a heavy vehicle or car carrier, obtain current route and crossing confirmation. Customs paperwork and physical permission to use a bridge are separate checks. Do not treat this crossing as interchangeable with the Botswana–Zambia Kazungula Bridge.

Your Vehicle Documents and Costs

For a vehicle import at Victoria Falls, start with the invoice, export or registration record and applicable transport documents. Confirm ownership, the purpose of the movement and whether the vehicle will stay in Zambia. Visitor temporary-entry questions should follow ZRA’s traveller guidance, not a purchase estimate.

New request or existing case?

Send only documents relating to the vehicle being assessed. If another agent has already started a declaration, do not open a duplicate filing. For an existing Ultima request, check your case instead.

Ultima’s base clearing fee is USD 200 for transit, imports and exports. Consignment additions and transit bond requirements are itemised separately. ZRA customs charges and applicable third-party costs are not included in the agency fee.

View the clearing rate card or read the full Zambia vehicle clearing guide.

Document assessment and case tracking are available to test. Final quotations and payments are not yet enabled. Contact Ultima to confirm local agent arrangements for your crossing.

Your Border Crossing Questions Answered

Is a tourist visit the same as importing a purchased vehicle?

No. A temporary visit in a foreign-registered vehicle and the importation of a purchased vehicle can require different customs procedures. State the purpose, ownership and intended departure clearly.

Is this the same crossing as Kazungula Bridge?

No. This page concerns the Victoria Falls crossing between Zambia and Zimbabwe near Livingstone. Kazungula Bridge connects Zambia with Botswana.

Can a heavy vehicle use the Victoria Falls crossing?

Confirm current bridge permissions, dimensions and weight requirements with the relevant authorities before dispatch. The published customs-station listing alone does not establish that a particular heavy vehicle can use the crossing.

Do customs documents replace immigration formalities?

No. Clearing the vehicle and meeting the traveller’s entry requirements are separate matters. Do not treat a vehicle assessment or customs release as permission for a person to enter the country.

What is distinctive about this border location?

The crossing is near Mosi-oa-Tunya / Victoria Falls, a shared Zambia–Zimbabwe World Heritage property inscribed in 1989. UNESCO records the waterfall’s width as 1,708 metres.
