South African Vehicles Through Zimbabwe
Chirundu sits on the Zambia–Zimbabwe section of the North–South Corridor. The ministry’s border profile identifies South Africa as the source of most imports in its historical account. For a buyer using that route, the Zimbabwe leg belongs in the clearing plan—not just the purchase in South Africa.

Documents for the Zimbabwe Route
Supply the vehicle invoice and ownership or export records, together with the transport paperwork for the journey through Zimbabwe. If the route changes to Botswana and Kazungula, tell the agent before filing rather than leaving Chirundu on the request.
For an import into Zambia, make the consignee and destination clear. For onward commercial transit, identify the proposed Zambian exit as well. The vehicle’s origin, route and final destination are different details; one should not be used as a substitute for another.
Your Vehicle Documents and Costs
For Chirundu, send the invoice, export or registration record and applicable road consignment documents. Confirm the Zimbabwe route, who owns or receives the vehicle, and whether it will stay in Zambia or continue to another country.
Send only documents relating to the vehicle being assessed. If another agent has already started a declaration, do not open a duplicate filing. For an existing Ultima request, check your case instead.
Ultima’s base clearing fee is USD 200 for transit, imports and exports. Consignment additions and transit bond requirements are itemised separately. ZRA customs charges and applicable third-party costs are not included in the agency fee.
View the clearing rate card or read the full Zambia vehicle clearing guide.
Document assessment and case tracking are available to test. Final quotations and payments are not yet enabled. Contact Ultima to confirm local agent arrangements for your crossing.
Your Border Crossing Questions Answered
Is Chirundu on the Botswana route?
No. This page covers the Zambia–Zimbabwe crossing. The Zambia–Botswana bridge crossing is Kazungula. Confirm which route the driver will actually use before the declaration is prepared.
Can a South African vehicle enter Zambia at Chirundu?
Chirundu is on the route through Zimbabwe. Whether the individual vehicle and movement can proceed depends on its documents and applicable customs requirements; start with a vehicle assessment rather than assuming the route alone establishes eligibility.
Does one-stop mean no customs examination?
No. A one-stop border arrangement coordinates border formalities; it does not remove the customs checks required for a particular consignment.
How much freight traffic uses Chirundu?
The Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry recorded 67,542 trucks cleared at Chirundu in 2021.
What if my agent has already filed at Chirundu?
Continue through the agent handling that declaration. Do not start a duplicate filing. If it is already an Ultima case, use Check My Case to view its recorded progress.
